Pictures like these are why we small church pastors persevere with just a handful of faithful souls in the pews. It’s because we are inheritors of a legacy and ministry of hope, to which our steeples stand as monuments. We occupy buildings whose walls are saturated with the tears and prayers of those who have gone before us. Those who may never darken the doors of our churches still appreciate that we do, because they know we’re praying, even if they don’t believe in it. There’s comfort knowing that communities, no matter how small, continue lifting their voices to a God who will never turn a deaf ear to us. Our steeples rise like our prayers, both on our own behalf, and on behalf of those who think we’re fools.

Thanks to Photographer Brian Allen for allowing the use of these absolutely stunning shots.
